Mayor Honors American Clay

Picture 1.png

Last Friday, September 21st, American Clay had the honor of hosting Mayor Martin Chavez’s press conference announcing his new green task forces. The Mayor presented the city’s green initiative, focusing on green city investments and purchasing.

In choosing a location for the conference, the city was looking for a facility that exemplified green manufacturing and an eco-focused approach to business. What better choice than American Clay?

Everyone here at American Clay felt extremely proud for this recognition. It was a huge acknowledgment from the city—and an event that finally forced us to put our finishing touches on our new home!

Our New Digs

As of August 1st, 2007, American Clay has a new place to call home. The move from Karsten Court to Alameda Park Drive was a much-needed, long-overdue change and has undeniably benefited the business in several ways.

Starting in a barn and coming to our new home causes us to step back and say, “Whoa! We really have grown!”

For 2-3 years before the move, American Clay was able to fit comfortably in the last location. But, as the business grew and the demand for products increased, the old facility was soon bursting at its seams. A change in location was no longer simply a preference but rather a necessity.

Although the new facility’s office sizes are roughly the same, the size of the warehouse has increased by nearly 10,000 square feet allowing American Clay to manufacture products on a more efficient scale. Besides that, the facility also includes a raw product storage area, an onsite training room to host workshops, a separated conference room and—the most popular change—more restrooms.

To celebrate our move, we plan to have an open house in the near future. Keep a lookout for updates!

Picture 21.png

Back from San Fran, Carol had nothing but positive things to say about West Coast Green.

It was a superior show with excellent management and the presentations provided a wealth of information. The 2-hour panel put forward intelligent, interesting questions and everyone there learned A LOT about American Clay. The entire experience was extraordinary. Thanks to everyone who made this event possible!

Albuquerque isn’t the most recyclable-friendly city in America, but we are getting better. A lack of interest from residents is more likely the culprit rather than lack of facilities provided by the city. With weekly curbside recycling pickups and 12 citywide recycling drop-off sites, residents could be recycling more.

While individual people are an important factor in upping the city’s recycling, businesses also must take a green initiative to make a noticeable change. That’s why American Clay is implementing a new bag return policy as well as a polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) return program. Read the rest of this entry »
