Albuquerque isn’t the most recyclable-friendly city in America, but we are getting better. A lack of interest from residents is more likely the culprit rather than lack of facilities provided by the city. With weekly curbside recycling pickups and 12 citywide recycling drop-off sites, residents could be recycling more.
While individual people are an important factor in upping the city’s recycling, businesses also must take a green initiative to make a noticeable change. That’s why American Clay is implementing a new bag return policy as well as a polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) return program.
Recognizing the environmental concerns surrounding Styrofoam, a conscious effort was put towards finding a greener alternative. We soon recognized that no other possibility was as reliable for ensuring our products’ shipping. Styrofoam is rarely recycled due to its lightweight and lack of cost-effectiveness and when in landfills, can take hundreds of years to decay. But, here at American Clay we are aiming to prevent our Styrofoam from ending up in landfills altogether by reuse.
The durability of our new bags also allows for reuse. Originally made of burlap lined with vinyl, our bags are now made with an unbleached muslin fabric. Strong and reliable, our bags can stand up to the challenge of reuse without question.
Not only will you be able to return American Clay bags to be reused but we would also like to implement a contest for the most inventive use of the bags. This is a chance for American Clay dealers, distributors and customers to get creative! Please submit photos, a detailed explanation, name and address to American Clay and the winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to the store of their choice.
Soon, customers will be able to send their bags and Styrofoam back to us, shipping paid for. Updates on the way!
